The third chapter of the Asian MK Consultation was held from 16-18 September 2016 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The gathering saw a head count of 30 participants, including 11 MKs from Hong Kong, India, Taiwan, Philippines and Thailand, MK parents/grandparents and MK caregivers/ member care coordinators from Interserve, OMF and OM.
It was one of the first gatherings that had such a mixed bag of representation, ensuring that our discussions on a paper that was drafted – ‘Recommendations to Churches and Mission Agencies on MK Care’ – were rounded and wholistic.
Teams also grouped in their regions and talked through a strategy for MK care for their countries.
A missionary parent – MK forum was organised with both parents and MKs speaking openly and listening to each other share about some of the challenges that they faced.
“This was a first-of-its-kind gathering, with parents, MKs and care givers sharing at the same forum, hearing each others perspective and being sensitised to each others needs and challenges. I hope we can have more of these in the future,” said an MK from India.
